My favorite thing about this substack newsletter thingy so far is how it forces me to slow down……. or at least try??
Today in a meeting at work I got a notification from Glennon Doyle’s new newsletter email and I declared to my team of marketing savvy people that in fact, long-form is the new short-form and short-form is dead (praise be!).. but also… I haven’t had time to read her newsletter yet and really I don’t have time the want to give to this post! Ah! Capitalism you crafty bitch, you’ve done it again!! Short-form is easier?? To create AND consume?!!? Almost by design?? Blast!
I’ve been sick after a long work weekend and then had meetings and catching up on emails and oh yea, I have a show to practice for, and I’m playing bass this weekend too? And I haven’t seen my partner in days??? Slowing down doesn’t feel like an option right now… So I will turn on Shania for a Shania Power Hour and do my best. I won’t even skip “Da Stanotte in Poi” because I am just too busy okay?? But then I’m so glad because it is beautiful and I actually turned it up as loud as it goes.
Rapid Fire Catchup to those I love:
I have two shows coming up! This Saturday I will perform my songs at the pilot light stage on March 8th at 8pm. Not only do I get to do what I love but I get to play bass for Grady Milligan as she opens the night and Wilby from Nashville will be playing also. The Wilby crew is filled with some of my oldest friends in the biz and it makes me so happy to share the stage with them.
Next Saturday, March 15th I will head to Nashville with the band to play the legendary Lipstick Lounge with the legendary Madeline Finn. About 5 years ago my friend Alyssa told me I would be great friends with Madeline and her wife Grace and sometimes friendship takes years, but Alyssa! You were right!! Maddy is cool as hell and I hear of a rumor that she’s showing up with a horns section. I can’t wait for this show. During a time like this it feels extra sacred to play in queer spaces. Spaces that are built to be intentionally safe for all. Maybe I will take my shoes off.
Album Update: Alex Bruce sent me some files for album artwork and I told Ben to print the bitch this week and that means I am officially out of the “is it done?” season of my record. Ready or not, she’s coming. I’ll be dropping a single next. Not sure what the date is but I wanted to put it up for debate here and see if anyone had any thoughts on which one.
Which would you like first? Kitchen Dance, All Experts, or Astronaut Song? Maybe you would like to choose from the album artwork?

Let me know what you think! There are no rules and maybe I will release them all at once?!?!! I can’t explain how much Alex’s work means to me. I feel like he nailed the nature of the songs and the feelings that led to the creation of them.
The full album will release May 15th with an album release on May 17th at the Pilot Light in Knoxville, TN.
I have been working on a substack post filled with puns and deep cuts and analogies that will make your heart soar to the highest heights! But I had the last 15 minutes of my Shania Power Hour and wanted to say hey. I’ve got to run to take Emily to get dumplings. It’s a surprise! Don’t tell! For now, I will leave you with this:
love this love you so happy the art worked out !!!!!!!!!
